Uganda – Living with violence
For over 20 years Ugandans in the north of the country lived with violence. More than 20,000 young students were abducted from their schools and taken off by the Lord’s Resistance army to be fighters, sex slaves, or porters. Now the war is over, violence has moved to the home. The statistics are bleak – 68% of married women aged 15 to 49 experience some form of violence inflicted by their partner, and over three quarters of them thought that burning food or refusing sexual relations justified domestic violence. A bill has been passed by the Ugandan government outlawing domestic violence, but  it has yet to be ratified by the President.
