Afghanistan. Changing Lives
When Afghanistan was invaded after 9/11 and the Taliban government ousted, Afghan women were promised a better life. For some in the cities things have got better. Girls are going to school, women are studying and working, wearing a burka is no longer mandatory and women, especially widows, are no longer prisoners in their homes. On the down side, domestic violence is rife, some prominent women have been killed, schools burnt down and young girls are being married off by desperate families unable to cope with the devastating effects of drought.
